Hosting Provider’s Responsibility (If Separate from IT)

Where a third-party hosting provider is used, they are typically responsible for:

  • Maintaining the availability and performance of the infrastructure (VMs, IIS, storage, networking).
  • Applying operating system and platform updates in line with agreed maintenance windows.
  • Ensuring network and data centre security (firewalls, physical security, DDOS protection).
  • Providing infrastructure-level monitoring and alerts (server health, disk usage, etc.).
  • Managing backups of the underlying VMs or shared hosting environment, if included in the service.

The exact division of responsibilities should match the hosting agreement and may overlap with client IT duties.
